Several years ago I had this orchid shipped home while visiting in

Hawaii. I believe it is a type of Cymbidium. Inspite of my diligent

care, it has never bloomed for me. In September, my wife and I

traveled to Europe to celebrate our tenth anniversary. When we

returned home we were greeted with this surprise gift from nature. As

always, I am grateful for your visits, comments, and ratings.

I like how this image makes the eyes travel from corner to corner.

Nice repeating shapes... with varying scale.

Works well with the background.

Thank you Hashim! It was the ladder-like structure of the stem that I found so intriging in this specimen. Regards.

It's looks like hybrid call Big Mac, which is Oncidium maculatum crossed with Oncidium hallii and is part of the cymbidium group. It likes a slight drying between waterings, which is what probably prompted it to bloom. You left on vacation and it dried out. The photo is an excellent presentation. The diagonal composition provide some tension. Good job. Thanks for looking at my slipper orchid photo. If you want to see some more of slipper orchid photos click here to visit my web. I have done a lot of experimentation with Photoshop gradient backgrounds. -- Terrence

That's a romantic story Walter. Such things are not coincidental :o) I like this one rotated counter-clockwise because it places the emphasis on the 2 tips at the top. There are 2 growing from the 11th branch, symbolizing another year of growing and flourishing together.
